Garmin has announced its new device designed for smartphones, called the Garmin GLO. It is the first wireless GPS receiver that has ability to receive signals from both the United States’ GPS satellite network and Russia’s GLONASS satellite network.
The GLO wirelessly connects to Apple and Android devices via Bluetooth and will increase the accuracy of GPS signals for applications running on the devices. It has an internal rechargeable battery that provides up to 12 hours of battery life per charge, and it offers a position update rate of up to 10 times per second, which is 10 times faster than the regular GPS receivers of most mobile devices.
The GLO portable GPS and GLONASS receiver for smartphone will be available in August for $99. Also available a special Aviation package designed for pilots for $129.
